Rookies Power the Offense as Women's Soccer Shuts Out Newbury

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Lesley University freshmen Emma Callender (Philomath, Ore.), Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.), and Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) each found the back of the net to power the offense as the Lynx stifled Newbury College 3-0 in New England Collegiate Conference action tonight at Dilboy Stadium.

The win marks the ninth straight for the Lynx as they improve to 12-5-0 on the season and remain unbeaten in the NECC with a perfect 7-0-0 ledger. The Nighthawks fall to 3-10-1 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play with the loss.

The Lynx wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Callendar broke through for the game's first goal just 1:35 after the opening kickoff. The unassisted tally was the first of Callendar's collegiate career.

Just 7:10 later Lesley struck again when Morehead gathered a pass from junior Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) and beat Newbury keeper Elizabeth Fox (Orono, Maine) for her third goal of the season.

The Lynx would take a 2-0 advantage into halftime before Mitchell added her team-leading eighth marker at 70:50 to give the guests their 3-0 lead. The goal was Mitchell's sixth on her last nine matches and extends her current point streak to six games. Junior Tori Ramirez (Redwood City, Calif.) was credited with the assist on the goal.

Lesley held the balance off possession and outshot their hosts by a 16-2 margin while claiming the only three corner kick opportunities on the night.

The Lynx will look to extend their streak to ten when they host Becker College on Wednesday night at 8:00p at Edward Field.
