Women's Soccer Routs Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's soccer team improved to 10-5-0 and a perfect 5-0-0 in New England Collegiate Conference matches with an 8-0 win over Wheelock College this afternoon. The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-9 on the season and 1-4 in NECC matches.

The rout started early as the Lynx opened the scoring at 12:20 as junior forward Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) took advantage of a breakaway and buried her fifth goal of the season. Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) then scored the first goal of her collegiate career when she capitalized on a penalty kick to make it 2-0 at 31:10. The goal was Donovan's first of her career.

The third and final goal of the half was another unassisted one, this time coming from junior defender Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.) with just five seconds remaining before halftime.

The rest of the contest was all Lesley, as the Lynx went on to score five more markers before ending the day with an 8-0 final score. Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) and Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) started the second half barrage with goals at 46:10 and 63:37 before sophomore Sarah Pochobradsky (Rotterdam, N.Y.) buried two to put the Lynx up 7-0.

Freshman Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.) capped the scoring for the Lynx with her second tally of the season coming off a feed from Mitchell.

The Lynx will return home to Cambridge on Wednesday for another NECC matchup when they welcome Mitchell College for an 8:00p tilt. The Wildcats face a quick turnaround as they return to the pitch tomorrow as they host the University of Maine at Presque Isle at 11:00a.
