Women's Soccer Grounds Falcons With Two Second Half Tallies

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Lesley University women's soccer team recorded their fourth straight victory with a 2-0 road triumph at Fitchburg State tonight at Elliot Field. The Lynx improved to 7-4-0 overall with the win while the Falcons fall to 2-10-0.

After a scoreless first half, Lesley broke the 0-0 stalemate at 61:47 when junior Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) received a pass from sophomore Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) and buried her third marker of the season to put the guests up 1-0.

Just 1:42 later it would be the Rubin finding the back of the net when she finished a feed from freshman Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) to make the score 2-0 with just over 26 minutes remaining in the contest. The goal was Rubin's second of the season.

The Falcons turned up the offensive pressure over the final 20 minutes of action as sophomore Whitney Mansfield and junior Victoria Floeck each put shots towards goal only to have Lynx net minder Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) turn away both chances, resulting in the 2-0 final.

Throughout the match, Lesley held a 13-5 advantage in shots, while also holding a 6-0 margin in corner kicks. In goal, Morgan Steele concluded the contest with five saves for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while the duo of senior Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) and Donovan stopped three shots for Lesley.

Lesley will return to action on Saturday when they return to New England Collegiate Conference play as they welcome Bay Path University at 1:00p. Fitchburg State will hit the road as they square off with Mass-Maritime on Friday at 7:00p.
