Second Half Barrage Propels Women's Soccer Past Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. – Trailing 2-1 at the end of the first half, the Lesley University women's soccer team exploded for four goals in the second to post a 5-2 comeback victory over host Suffolk University tonight in a non-conference bout at James A. Sartori Stadium at East Boston Memorial Park.

With their second consecutive victory the Lynx improve to an even 5-5-0 on the year while the Rams drop their second match in the last three games to fall to 3-7.

Lesley capitalized on the first and only corner of the first frame to take an early 1-0 edge. Freshman Kai Morehead's (Oxnard, Calif.) corner kick was sent high into the cluster in the goalie's box before senior Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) jumped over the pack and used her head from five yards out to put the Lynx on the scoreboard just six minutes in.

The teamwork of Suffolk sophomore's Jessica Harmon and Jennifer Martin helped the Rams not only pull ahead to stake a 2-1 lead at the half. Martin struck first off a dish from Harmon at the 11th minute mark before Harmon followed suit at the 30th minute mark with her third tally of 2015.

The second half was all Lynx. Junior Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) started the scoring barrage when she headed home a feed from first year Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.) at the 52nd minute.

The Lynx would take their second lead of the game, one they would not relinquish, in the 72nd minute of action as freshman Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) struck for her fourth marker of the season before senior Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif.) followed less than two minutes later with her first tally of the season. Classmate Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass.) was credited with the assist on Vidana's goal.

Lesley would end the night the way it began as Wirth would finish off another corner, this time with her foot, to complete her second two-goal game of her career. Fellow senior Jennifer Collins (Edison, N.J.) earned the assist on the play to cap Lesley's highest scoring output of the season.

The Lynx will return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Nashua, N.H. for a New England Collegiate Conference match with Daniel Webster College at 1:00p. The Rams will also be on the road when they return to action on Wednesday against Emmanuel College for a 7:00p tilt.
