Mitchell Powers Women's Soccer to Season Opening Win at ENC

QUINCY, Mass.- The Lesley University women's soccer team kicked off their season on the right foot as they sprinted past host Eastern Nazarene College with a 3-0 win tonight at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The triumph is the fourth straight for the Lynx over the Lions dating back to the 2012 season.

Lesley freshman Jordan Mitchell (Sachse, Texas) had an electric start to her collegiate career as she led the Lynx offense with a pair of goals.

Lesley got on the board first with a score in the 28th minute of the match. Senior Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) barreled down the center of the pitch before slipping a pass to junior Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas) at the top of the 18-yard box. Hopkins' one-timer floated into the left side of the cage for her first of the season to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead.

The Lynx added a goal in the 34th minute to push their advantage to 2-0. Mitchell headed in a bouncing ball for her first tally of the fall off of a cross by classmate Kai Morehead (Oxnard, Calif.) as the visitors took a 2-0 edge into intermission.

The Lynx tacked on their third score of the night in the 80th minute as Mitchell knocked in her second goal of the game, tapping in a cross off the foot of fellow freshman Samantha Bessey (Algonquin, Ill.).

Lesley finished the match with a 15-4 margin in shots, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on frame.

Senior Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) turned aside six shots in goal for Eastern Nazarene, while Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) and Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) combined to post the clean sheet for the Lynx.

Lesley's season-opening four game road trip will continue on Saturday when they head to Babson College for a non-conference duel at 2:30p. The Lions remain at home and will host Moravian September 5 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 11 am.
