CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ten different players found the back of the net for Lesley University as they Lynx powered past Wheelock College 11-1 tonight in New England Collegiate Conference action at Edward Field. The Lynx found the back of the net six times in the first half before adding five more tallies in the second to extend their conference regular season unbeaten streak to 49 matches. The hosts improve to 14-3-0 overall and a perfect 7-0-0 in the conference while the Wildcats drop to 3-11-1 on the year and 1-5-0 in the NECC.
At halftime, the Lynx celebrated Friends of Jaclyn Night as they honored Caroline Stratton, whom they added to their women's soccer family last April. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is an organization who strives to improve the quality of life for children and their families who are battling pediatric brain tumors and raise awareness for the disease by pairing them up with college and high school sports teams. The Lynx also honored Lani Cabral-Pini '09 as they presented her with a framed jersey for her contributions as a player for the Lynx from 2005-2008. Cabral-Pini played in 74 games, scoring 22 goals and assisting on 18 for a total of 62 career points. She was named to the 2007 North Atlantic Conference First Team, 2008 New England Collegiate Conference First Team, and 2008 New England Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Association Senior All Star. In her final two seasons, she helped lead the Lynx to consecutive postseason appearances and a 30-7-3 overall record and was one of the initial leaders of the women's soccer program.
Lesley senior Emily Johnston (Goldens Bridge, N.Y.) started the scoring for the Lynx as she tallied her second goal in as many games when she connected from 35 yards out into the upper right corner of the net.
Classmates Jasmine Sanchez (Chino, Calif.), Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.), and Aleix Giusti (Yuba City, Calif.) all found the back of the net within four minutes of each other to quickly give the hosts a 4-0 advantage. Giusti has now registered points in ten straight matches. Throughout her streak, the senior forward has tallied eight goals while dishing out eight assists.
Junior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) recorded her second goal of the season in the 31st minute of play as she finished a feed from Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.). Halen, Lesley's all-time assist leader, was credited with three more this evening.
Freshman Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) closed out the scoring in the first half as she finished a rebound from junior Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) on the heels of a corner kick from sophomore Lindsey Bos (Escondido, Calif.). The goal was Rubin's second of the season.
The Lynx wasted little time in to get the offense rolling in the second stanza as junior Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass.) recorded her second of the season when she connected on a shot from a step inside the box.
Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas), Cameron Brown (Marshfield, Mass.), Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif.), and Sanchez all recorded goals in the second half to seal the match for the hosts.
Wheelock senior Rachel Noiseux (Merrimack, N.H.) scored the lone goal for the Wildcats as she lofted a shot from 40 yards into the back of the net for her fourth of the season. Junior Maddie Domingo (Newington, Conn.) was credited with the assist on the play.
Lesley will return to the pitch when they travel to Becker College on Wednesday for an NECC matchup with the Hawks at 4:00p.
