Women's Soccer Sinks Mariners in NECC Matinee

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Lesley University women's soccer team improved to a perfect 6-0-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 3-0 win over Mitchell College this afternoon at Alumni Field on the Mitchell campus. Three different Lynx found the back of the net as visitors move to 13-3-0 overall. With the setback, the Mariners drop to 1-11-1 on the year and 1-4-1 in conference action.

Lesley wasted little time to open the scoring as senior back Emily Johnston (Goldens Bridge, N.Y.) found the back of the net just 3:18 into the match. The goal was Johnston's first of the season.

In the 35th minute, junior Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas) finished a corner kick from sophomore Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.) with a header inside the nearside post and past Mariner goalkeeper Katie McBride (Paris, France). Robinson now has three markers on the season while Bos recorded her sixth assist on the season.

Sophomore Julie Essick (Boerne, Texas) wrapped up the scoring for the Lynx as she added her fourth tally of the season when she finished a feed from senior Alexis Giusti (Yuba City, Calif.). With the assist, Giusti extended her point streak to nine straight games.

The Lynx outshot the Mariners by an astounding 49-1 margin while holding a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

McBride recorded 22 saves on the afternoon in the loss while freshman Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) earned the win to improve to 3-1-0 on the season as she split time in goal with junior Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.).

The Lynx, who extended their regular season conference unbeaten streak to 48 matches, return to play on Saturday, October 25th as they welcome Wheelock College to Cambridge at 8:00p. The Mariners will also return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Newbury College for a 5:00p kickoff.
