Three First Half Goals Carry Women's Soccer Past Pride

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University scored three goals in the first half as they rolled to a 4-0 win over Regis College this afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action this afternoon on the Regis campus in Weston, Mass. Lesley's win was their fifth in a row as they improve to 12-3 on the season and a perfect 5-0-0 in NECC play while the Pride fall to 6-5-2 and 3-2-0 in the conference.

Lesley's Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.) put the Lynx on the board in the sixth minute before senior Jasmine Sanchez (Chino, Calif.) followed just two minutes later to give the Lynx an early 2-0 advantage. Both goals were assisted by senior Alexis Giusti (Yuba City, Calif.).

In the 17th minute, Giusti would get herself into the scoring column as she connected on a feed from sophomore Lindsay Bos (Valencia, Calif.). Bos carried the ball down the left side of the box and found Giusti with a cross to the middle. Giusti's shot would bounce off the far side post and trickle in for the third goal of the half for the Lynx.

Senior Marysol Flores (Pico Rivera, Calif.) kept the momentum going early in the second half for the Lynx as she buried her fourth of the season on a feed from Halen just seven minutes into the second stanza.

Lesley outshot Regis by a 14-3 margin and held a 6-1 edge on corner kicks.

Pride goalkeeper Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) was strong in between the pipes, making four saves in the loss. Junior Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.)was credited with her ninth win of the season in goal for the Lynx before being relieved by freshman Lilly Donovan (Newburyport, Mass.) in the second half.

Halen tied the Lesley women's soccer record for games played by appearing in the 80 match of her career. The current record is held by Chelsea Quakenbush '10 and Jodi Fralick '09.

The Lynx will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to New London, Conn. for a match with Mitchell College at 3:30p. The Pride will kick off a four game homestand on Wednesday as they welcome Wheelock College at 5:00p.
