CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Eight different players registered a goal to lead Lesley University to an 8-0 shutout over Daniel Webster College Saturday evening in a New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer contest played on Edward Field at Buckingham, Brown and Nicols.
The win improves Lesley's overall record to 11-3 and 4-0 in conference play while Daniel Webster slips to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the NECC.
The Lynx scored five first half goals, beginning with an unassisted tally from sophomore forward Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Texas/Porter) in the 13th minute. Senior midfielder Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) followed up with a goal on an assist from sophomore defender Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif./Valencia) in the 19th minute.
Lesley's potent offense continued to add on with three more goals in the 21st, 23rd and 24th minute, beginning with junior midfielder Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat) and followed by junior defender Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and senior forward Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif./Yuba City). Senior forward Cameron Brown (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and Giusti registered an assist on two of the goals.
It didn't take long for the Lynx to regain their groove and add on to the scoreboard as they added their sixth goal of the game in the 51st minute on a strike from junior midfielder Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas/Frisco Liberty) with senior forward Marysol Flores (Pico Rivera, Calif./Downey) assisting on the play.
Freshman Samantha Turnbull (Holtsville, N.Y.) fired in the seventh goal of the game on a dish from sophomore defender Julie Essick (Beorne, Texas/Champions) in the 65th minute. The Lynx final goal came in the 70th minute when Flores beat out the goalie on a quick pass from Landerholm.
Lesley finished the game outshooting the Eagles by a 42-0 count and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Both Turnbull's and Quezada's goals were the first of their collegiate careers.
Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Dargee (Melbourne, Fla./Florida Air Acad.) was busy in goal and finished the night with 18 stops for the Eagles.
Lesley returns to action with a road game against Bay Path College on October 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
