Women's Soccer Blanks Elms in 2013 NECC Championship Rematch

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Lesley University senior Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) scored a goal and was credited with two assists as the Lynx blanked Elms College this afternoon 3-0 in what was a rematch of the 2013 New England Collegiate Conference Championship match. The Lynx improve to 8-3-0 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in conference play while the Blazers fall to 2-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the NECC.

Junior goalkeeper Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) made four stops in the win as she improves to 7-2-0 in 2014 while her counterpart Alex Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) was credited with ten saves in the loss.

Lesley junior Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif.) opened the scoring just four minutes into the second half as she headed home a free kick off the foot of Giusti to give the Lynx a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Vidana's fifth of the season.

The Lynx tacked on two more goals just 2:06 apart. Freshman Karlie Rubin (San Diego, Calif.) netted the first of her collegiate career at 72:17 before Giusti added her only tally as she fired a shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 25 yards out to beat Rinaudo to seal the victory for the guests.

Lesley outshot Elms by a 16-6 margin on the afternoon while the visitors also held a 7-2 edge on corner kick opportunities.

The Lynx will return to Cambridge on Thursday, October 9th when they host Fitchburg State University at 8:00p in non-conference play. Elms will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 8th as they welcome Westfield State University to Chicopee at 7:00p.
