WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College women's soccer team used to a quick start to down the Lynx in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship this afternoon at Cole Field. Williams midfielder Carla Nicasio (Rowayton, Conn.) notched the game's first goal just thirty-seconds into play to pace a four-goal first half for the Ephs as they moved onto Second Round action with a 5-1 victory over Lesley. The Lynx finish their season with an 18-2-1 record.

Nicasio streaked down the left sideline before sending a left-footed shot inside the far right post to give Williams an early 1-0 edge.

Freshman forward Kristi Kirshe (Franklin, Mass.) would make it 2-0 twelve minutes later before sophomore Ali Magruder (St. Louis, Mo.) added back-to-back goals in the 27^th and 29^th minutes to give the hosts a commanding 4-0 advantage.

The Ephs maintained ball control throughout most of playing in the opening half and outshot the Lynx by a 9-4 margin.

Lesley's best opportunity came immediately after Nicasio's goal when junior Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) fired a left-footed attempt from 12-yards out, but Ephs goalkeeper Hannah Van Wetter (Lakewood, Colo.) was there to make one of her two saves on the day.

After the break, it was the Lynx who continually attacked the offensive zone before finally finding the back of the net in the 51^st minute of action. Giusti settled a Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.) corner kick and beat keeper Tressa Palcheck (Schaumburg, Ill.) to get the Lynx on the board.

Lesley kept Palcheck busy in the second half, outshooting the Ephs 11-8 in the final 45 minutes, forcing the freshman to make six saves.

The Lynx nearly added another tally when junior midfielder Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) sent a lofting shot from 25 yards out, but Palcheck tipped the ball just over the crossbar to keep the Williams lead at 4-1.

The Ephs would add their final mark of the afternoon on a penalty kick after the Lynx were called for a handball in the box. Sophomore Hanna Tomozawa (Honolulu, Hawaii) beater Lynx goalie Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) with a blast into the right side of the net to put things away, 5-1.

Williams will move on to play Keene State College in the Second Round tomorrow at 11:00a. The Owls defeated Haverford College 2-0 in the afternoon's second game of the day.
