NCAA Game Preview: Women's Soccer at Williams

The Lesley University women's soccer team will continue their season after winning the NECC Championship game against Elms College 1-0 in a double overtime thriller.  The Lynx will move on to the NCAA first round with a matchup against Williams College on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00am.

Scouting Lesley:

The Lynx are coming fresh off a 1-0 double overtime win against Elms College, capturing their second straight NECC title in the victory and second consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance.  The Lynx are having a successful season going 18-1-1 overall with a 9-0 conference record. The Lynx are led by 2013 New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Year Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) who netted 11 goals and one assist from the midfield while junior classmate Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) led the offense for the Lynx with 12 goals and seven assists for a total of 31 points.  Between the pipes, the sophomore Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) boats a 6-0-1 record with a 0.38 goals against average and three shutouts.

Scouting Williams:

The Ephs are coming off of a 1-0 loss to Middlebury College in the NESCAC Championship game.  First year Katie Wardlaw (San Marino, Calif.) headed the Ephs in the scoring department with five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points on the season.  Junior goalkeeper Hannah Van Wetter (Lakewood, Colo.) provided the backbone for the defense tallying a record of 11-2-2 with 8 shutouts and recorded a goals against average of 0.32. Williams has a rich history in the NCAA Tournament, earning a bid in each of the last seven seasons and fifteen times overall in program history.

What's at Stake:

The winner will go on to the Second Round and face the winner of a match between Haverford College and Keene State College that will take place at 1:30p on Saturday. Haverford (10-3-6) is making their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament after receiving an at-large bid out of the Centennial Conference. The Owls captured the automatic bid from the Little East Conference by downing Eastern Connecticut State, 1-0, for their first league crown since 2004.

The NCAA D-III tournament continues through early December when the semifinals and championship game will be played on Dec. 6 and 7 in San Antonio, Texas.
