Women's Soccer Hosts Regis in NECC Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The top-seeded Lesley University women's soccer team (16-1-1, 9-0-0 NECC) will travel to fourth-seeded Regis (10-6-2, 6-2-1 NECC) for a first round matchup on Wednesday, October 30th at 7:00pm. The winner will advance to the NECC Championship match on Saturday, November 2nd.

The Lynx defeated the Pride in the 2012 NECC title match, 1-0, with a goal scored in the 89th minute to secure their second conference title in program history.

Scouting Regis:
Regis is currently riding a five-game win-streak, including a 2-1 NECC First Round victory over Southern Vermont College on Tuesday. Juniors Jackie Rocheville and Kristen Abreu each scored for the Pride, who are advancing to the NECC Semifinals for the second straight season. Abreu and junior Adena Joseph lead the Regis offense with seven goals apiece while sophomore Sam Salamone has netted five. In between the pipes for the Pride is Rachel Gagnon, 2012 NECC Goalkeeper of the Year, who boasts a 0.69 GAA and a 10-5-2 record. 

 

Scouting Lesley:
The 2012 NECC Champion Lynx rolled through the regular season with a perfect 9-0-0 record, extending their regular season conference win-streak to 43 games. Rolling on a nine-game win streak, Lesley has outscored their NECC opponents by a 47-1 margin. Juniors Alexis Giusti and Hannah Landerholm pace the Lynx, finding the back of the net 11 times each. An experienced backline anchored by seniors Sarah Apgar and Taylor Smith have held conference foes to just 17 total shots.  

 

Previous Matchup:
Hannah Landerholm headed home a corner kick in the 93rd minute to send the Lynx home with a 1-0 win over the Pride in their regular season matchup on October 12th . Lesley outshot the Pride, 23-0, and also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks but Regis keeper Rachel Gagnon made 12 saves for the Pride in net.

 

What's at stake:
The winner of the match will face the winner of the other NECC Semifinal matchup between No. 2 Elms College and No. 3 Bay Path College. If Lesley wins, they will host the championship on Saturday at 2:00p. If Regis wins, they will travel to the highest seed remaining on Saturday.
