Women's Soccer Rolls in Regular Season Finale

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Newbury College women's soccer team dropped the 2013 regular season final, 5-0, to Lesley University, Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Alexis Giusti (Meridan, Conn.) led the Lynx to the victory, registering back-to-back goals midway through the second period.

Senior defender Alishya Anselmo (Fall River, Mass.) anchored the defense for the Nighthawks, keeping the Lynx off the scoreboard for the majority of the first period. In the 34th minute of action, sophomore midfielder Isabella Vidana (San Marcos, Calif.) connected with junior midfielder Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) to break-up the scoreless contest and send Lesley into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes into the start of the second period, Lynx sophomore forward Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass.) gave Lesley an insurance goal to increase their lead to 2-0. But they were not done yet. In the 62nd minute, Rapant added an assist to her line, connecting with Giusti for the Connecticut native's first goal of the game; 10 minutes later Giusti found the back of the net again for her second goal of the game. Sophomore midfielder Melinda Robinson (Plano, Texas)  capped off the shut-out with the game's fifth goal in the 83rd minute.

Newbury ends the regular season 3-6 in conference action and 4-10 overall while Lesley remains undefeated in NECC action improving to 9-0 and 16-1-1 overall, while they have secured the top seed and a First Round bye in the NECC Championship.
