Seven Players Score as Women's Soccer Routs Wheelock

BOSTON, MA – Junior midfielder Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, WA) netted a pair of goals as one of seven different players to score for the Lesley University women's soccer team in an 8-0 victory over Wheelock College this afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference match at Winsor Field in Boston, MA.  The Lynx win their seventh straight match, including their 41st straight regular season conference contest.  They improve to 14-1-1 overall and a perfect 7-0-0 in NECC play, while the Wildcats fall to 1-11-0 and 1-5-0.

Wheelock honored its only senior, Alyssa Collier (Trappe, PA) with a pre-game ceremony to highlight her 26-game career with the Wildcats.

The match was scoreless through the first 16 minutes of action until junior forward Alexis Giusti (Meridian, CA) lifted a cross in front of the net that Landerholm redirected into the back of the net with her head at 16:15 for a 1-0 visitors' edge.  Landerholm struck again, less than five minutes later, for her seventh goal of the year when she carried the ball in on a breakaway and sent a low shot into the left corner for a 2-0 Lesley margin.

The Lynx scored five more times prior to halftime.  Giusti netted her team-leading eighth marker of the season when she settled the ball on her chest and ripped a low shot into the left corner at the 27:29 mark for a 3-0 lead.  Lesley followed with a pair of goals in a span of 2:05 to increase its lead to 5-0.  Sophomore forward Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, MA) weaved through the Wildcats' defense and scored at 28:42, before senior defender Casey Decareau (Haverhill, MA) sent a short cross inside the box that junior forward Marysol Flores (Pico Rivera, CA) turned into her third goal of the season just 54 seconds later.  Junior defender Emily Johnston (Goldens Bridge, NY) put a shot on net for the Lynx, but hit the post, only to be put back in the net by junior forward Cameron Brown (Marshfield, MA) for her third tally of the year at 38:50.  Brown returned the favor with a cross in front to Johnston, who converted for her third goal of the season with just 1:32 left in the opening half to give Lesley a 7-0 cushion.

Sophomore midfielder Melinda Robinson (Plano, TX) capped the day's scoring with her career-best third goal of the year.  She lifted a shot from the top left corner of the 18-box just inside the upper far post at 59:56 for an 8-0 Lynx' advantage.

Junior keeper Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, PA) did not face a shot in the first half for Lesley and earned the victory to improve to 7-1-0 on the season.  Senior goalie Victoria Ellis (Laguna Beach, CA) closed out the second half for the Lynx, stopping both shots that she faced.  Freshman goalie Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, ME) turned away 14 shots for Wheelock.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Monday, October 21 when they travel to Bennington, VT to take on NECC foe Southern Vermont College at 4:00 p.m., while Lesley hosts Becker College on October 23 at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols School at 8:00 p.m.
