Women's Soccer Stays Perfect in NECC with Win Over Mitchell

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University received first half goals from juniors Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) and Marysol Flores (Pico Rivera, Calif.) as the Lynx stayed perfect in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols with a 4-0 win over Mitchell College. The Lynx improve to 13-1-1 on the year and 6-0-0 in conference action while the Mariners fall to 1-10-0 overall and 1-5-0 in NECC play. The win extends Lesley's NECC regular season winning-streak to 40 games.

Landerholm got the Lynx on the board in the 20th minute when she one-timed a cross from classmate Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) who sent a ball into the box from the right side. Landerholm connected with her right foot with a shot into the lower left corner to give Lesley a 1-0 lead. The goal was Landerholm's fifth of the season while Giusti was credited with her fourth helper of the season.

Flores extended the Lesley lead with just 53-seconds to play in the opening half when freshman Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.) delivered a beautiful feed to the cutting midfielder before she unleashed a blast from just inside the box, beating Mitchell keeper Kaylee Woodford (Niantic, Conn.).

The Lynx, who outshot the Mariners 13-0 in the first half, kept up the pressure after the break adding their third goal of the game when freshman Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, Tx.) added her second mark of the season, edging a Mitchell defender and putting a shot inside the near post to put Lesley up 3-0.

Lesley would add their final tally when sophomore Jennifer Collins (Edison, N.J.) notched her first score of her collegiate career, capitalizing on a penalty kick after Mitchell was called for a foul in the box.

The Lynx outshot the Mariners 25-1 on the night and held a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.

Woodford made ten saves for Mitchell on the night, including several acrobatic stops, while Lesley keeper Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) did not make a save in the shutout, improving her record to 4-0-1 on the year.

Both teams will be back in NECC action on Saturday as the Lynx will travel to Wheelock College for a 4:00p start while the Mariners will play host to Newbury College at 12:00p.
