Landerholm's Header Gives Women's Soccer Win in OT

WESTON, Mass. – In a rematch of the 2012 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer championship match, Lesley University defeated Regis College, 1-0 in overtime, on Saturday afternoon in an NECC league game in Weston, Mass. Lesley's Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) headed home a corner kick in the 93rd minute to send the Lynx home with the win.

Lesley improves to 12-1-1 overall and 5-0 in the NECC while winning its fifth-straight game. The Pride fall to 5-6-2 and 2-2-1 in the league games with the setback.

The Lynx outshot the Pride, 23-0, and also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) made 12 saves for the Pride in net in the setback. Lesley's Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, Pa.) and Jackie Berard (Coventry, R.I.) split time in net, with Berard playing the second half and overtime to pick up the win.

Gagnon kept Lesley off the board in the opening half when Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) played a long cross into the box that found Marysol Flores (Pico Rivera, Calif.) one-on-one with the Regis netminder. Flores tried to go to Gagnon's right side, but the sophomore reached back and made the save, keeping it a deadlocked game.

The score remained the same headed into the half, and Lesley had their first scoring chance of the period only 17 seconds in. Lindsey Bos (Valencia, Calif.) fired a crossing pass in front of the net that found Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass.) for a one-timer shot. Gagnon played the shooting lane perfectly as she scooped up the attempt and preserved the tie.

With only nine minutes remaining in regulation, Lesley's Cameron Brown (Marshfield, Mass.) had a chance to give the Lynx the lead after receiving a quick pass in the box. Her shot looked destined for the back of the net, but Gagnon made a sprawling save as the Pride held on to force the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Lesley was awarded a corner kick after the ball went out of bounds off a Regis defender. Giusti took the kick and lofted the ball opposite post, where it found the head of Hannah Landerholm and she buried the shot in the top right corner of the net to send the visitor's home with the 1-0 victory.

With their second consecutive overtime win, the Lynx move to 4-0-1 in extra time this season.

Regis returns to action on Tuesday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. match against Wheelock College. Lesley hosts Mitchell College on Wednesday night in an 8:00 p.m. contest.
