Women's Soccer Races Past Anna Maria

Paxton, Mass. – Fueled by three first half goals and a smothering defense, the Lesley University women's soccer team downed Anna Maria College 7-0 in non-conference women's soccer action today at AMCAT Field. The Lynx remain undefeated and move to 5-0, while the AMCATS drop from the undefeated ranks to a 2-1 season record.

The Lynx used a balance attack throughout the afternoon as they saw seven different players find the back of the net.

The two teams battled early and often in the first half with the score 0-0 for the first ten minutes before junior midfielder Hannah Landerholm (Edmonds, Wash.) scored the only goal Lesley would need in the 10th minute. She converted a pass from teammate Morgan Zack (Bellevue, Wash.) to the lower right post. Lesley added two more goals to close out the half as sophomore Samantha Rapant (Pittsfield, Mass.) and junior Cameron Brown (Marshfield, Mass.) tallied just five minutes apart for the 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Lesley did not slow after the break as they added four second half goals. Freshman Cassidy Hopkins (Porter, TX), notched her first collegiate goal and senior Veronica Halen (San Diego, CA) added her fourth goal of the season just four minutes into the second stanza before senior Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) and Emily Johnston (Goldens Bridge, N.Y.) closed out the scoring for the visitors.

Netminder Victoria Ellis (Laguna Beach, CA) picked up her second win of the season while Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, MA) had seven saves in the loss. Lesley dominated the game outshooting the AMCATS 31-0.

Anna Maria returns to action on Thursday, September 12 when they host Mass. Maritime at 4:00pm while Lesley travels to Wellesley College on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:15 pm contest.
