NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Veronica Halen (San Diego, Calif.) opened up the scoring and freshman Tara Coleman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) added her first career collegiate goal and an assist as the Lynx ruined the home opener for Mount Ida College with a 3-1 win at Alumni Field.

The Lynx move to a perfect 2-0-0 to start the year while the Mustangs remain winless at 0-2-0.

After ending the season-opener with a goal in double-overtime on Friday, Halen had another impressive performance on Sunday as she opened the scoring in the 24^th minute with a rising blast off a loose ball in the box giving the Lynx a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked the 35th of her career.

Despite being outshot 15-4 in the first half, the Mustangs did not concede again before the break, and when into halftime trailing 1-0.

Coleman doubled the Lynx advantage with her first goal in the 66^th minute, looping the ball over the head of Mustang freshman goalie Rebecca Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) from nearly forty yards out.

Coleman would then assist on the third goal of the day for Lesley, finding junior Alexis Giusti (Meridian, Calif.) in the 72^nd minute. Giusti created space for herself and then found the back of the net from fifteen yards out on the left side to put the visitors up 3-0.

Beaulieu made seven saves in nearly 80 minutes of action between the pipes for Mount Ida. She was spelled by sophomore Alexis Gould (Leominster, Mass.), who made two stops in a clean final ten minutes of play.

Alex Lincoln (Stamford, Vt.) got the Mustangs on the board in the 81^st minute, but, despite a late game surge, the home team was unable to break through and narrow the gap any further.  

Lincoln was the beneficiary of a great ball delivered by junior Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) from the corner flag. The freshman was able to get her head to the ball on her first touch and then ensure that it carried over the goal line for her first collegiate marker.

The Lynx played a different goalkeeper each half, with Victoria Ellis (Laguna Beach, Calif.) earning her first win of the year with a scoreless first half in which she made one save.

Junior Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, Pa.) played the last forty-five minutes and conceded one goal on the only shot she faced.  

Lesley fired 33 shots through out the match, 12 of them on goal, and held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks while holding Mount Ida to just eight shots, two of which were on net.

Lesley continues a five-game road swing on Tuesday evening with a 6:30 pm game at Eastern Nazarene. Mount Ida will continue their two-game home-stand on Wednesday evening when they host Newbury at 7:00 pm.
