Lynx chase down Mountaineers for 2-1 comeback win

BENNINGTON, VT -- Lesley erased a 1-0 deficit in the final minutes with a goal from Sarah Apgar before Kate Ryder provided the game-winner with under two minutes remaining as Lesley stunned Southern Vermont with a 2-1 win in both teams' New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer opener.

After a scoreless first half dominated largely by Lesley, which outshot the Mountaineers 11-2 in the frame, the teams went into halftime in a scoreless tie. Thirty-one minutes out of halftime, Southern Vermont's Kaitlyn Forant snapped the scoreless tie on a pass from Jocelyn Ortega.

The 1-0 lead held until the final minutes, when Lesley's peppering of Southern goalkeeper Catrina Cecchini finally paid off. A Veronica Halen pass connected to Apgar, who tied the contest at 86:36. At 88:10, Ryder beat Cecchini on an unassisted score, earning the senior her first game-winner of 2012.

Cecchini made a game-high 12 saves, while sophomore Emileigh Lloyd made two saves for the Lynx, which outshote the Mountaineers 24-3.

At 6-1-1 and 1-0-0 in NECC play, Lesley returns to play on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at MIT.
