Deuces wild: Lynx improve to 2-0 with second 2-0 win

NEWTON, MA -- Lesley improved to 2-0 in earning a second 2-0 win as Veronica Halen's two assists led the visiting Lynx past Mount Ida on Sunday in spoiling the Mustangs season opener.

Unlike the Lynx 2-0 win at Suffolk on Friday, Lesley took a lead into halftime, striking in the closing minutes of the first period. Halen connected with fellow junior Casey Decareau for what became the game-winner at 42:13. Lesley controlled the tempo in the first, outshooting Mount Ida 9-2 in the frame.

The 1-0 lead held until the 75th minute, when Halen spotted Hayley Wirth for the freshman's first goal as a Lynx. Lesley again dominated the ball in the second, firing 10 shots on Mustangs keeper Samantha Basler, and allowing only one Mustangs shot in the half.

On the day, Lesley outshot Mount Ida 19-3 and earned all four of the match's corner kicks.

Sophomore Emileigh Lloyd made two saves in goal for her first shutout of the season for the Lynx.

Basler stopped a match-high seven shots for Mount Ida.

Lesley returns to play on Thursday at home at 8:00 p.m. against Eastern Nazarene.
