NEW LONDON, CT -- When not winning convincingly, they sure make it interesting.

For the second time in six days, Paul Vasconcelos' women's soccer team overcame a 1-0 second half deficit on the road in league play to force overtime and win in sudden death, this time doing so in the Lynx 2-1 overtime win at Mitchell.

Sarah Apgar's first career goal couldn't have come at a better time, as the freshman provided the golden goal at 95:06, giving Lesley sole possession of first place at 6-0-1 in New England Collegiate Conference play, 10-4-1 overall.

With first place on the line, Mitchell took control in the 21st minute and led for most of the game. Nikki Hoxie's seventh goal of the season, this one chipped over the head of goalkeeper Corinne Dasti from 25 yards, gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead that the team would hold into halftime and beyond.

As it has done so often throughout the season, Lesley declined to convert first half opportunities, taking all four corner kicks and outshooting Mitchell 7-3 in the half.

However, late in the second half, Veronica Halen, much as she did in Wednesday's comeback, NECC win at Becker, ignited the Lynx offense. After getting Lesley on the board in the 60th minute in last week's comeback, the freshman waited until the 81:17 mark before scoring into an open net after goalkeeper Kaylee Woodford attempted to come out to clear the ball.

After knocking on the Mitchell door all day, Lesley nearly won in in regulation. Apgar looked to tuck a shot into the upper right corner of the goal, but Woodford punched it out to force overtime.

She'd have no such luck on Apgar's next offering. Apgar took Jenna Fralick's pass in the center of the field, dribbled and slid overtime's only shot to the back of the net at 95:06, making a hero out of the freshman and putting the Lynx alone at the top of the NECC standings.

Dasti made two saves for Lesley, which earned a 21-9 edge in shots and earned 12 corner kicks to zero for the Mariners. Halen's goal moves her into second on the team.

At 10-4-2 overall and winners of six in a row, the Lynx have a week off before visiting Brandeis, squaring off against the No. 23 Judges next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
