KEENE, N.H. – In their first ever postseason appearance,
the Lesley University women’s soccer team lost to Keene State
College 5-0 in the Quarterfinals of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic
Conference (ECAC) Tournament. The Lynx end their 2009 season with a
record of 15-5-1 (8-0 NECC), one win shy of their program best 16
wins in 2008.
The Keene State offense was led by Katie Bradford (LEBANON,
N.H./Lebanon) who netted a hat trick in the first half to
give the Owls a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Bradford’s first goal was assisted by Mary Lake
(PORTSMOUTH, R.I./Portsmouth) and her third goal was
assisted by Tara Nathan (BETHEL, Conn./Bethel).
Bradford’s second goal was unassisted as the junior dribbled
around Lesley keeper Hailee Lowe (HAMILTON,
Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) on a breakaway.
Keene State added two more goals in the second half, both by
Joan Hamel (WEARE, N.H./John Stark Regional) to
send the Owls into the ECAC Tournament Semifinals. Hamel’s
second goal was assisted by Sam Saltalamacchia (SANDOWN,
N.H./Timberlane).
Lowe made seven saves in net for the Lynx when facing 12 shots on
goal by Keene State. Keene State’s Meghan Dempsey
(EAST WEYMOUTH, Mass./Weymouth) made two saves without
allowing a goal.
Keene State held an 18-5 shot advantage and took five corner kicks
to Lesley’s zero.
There was one caution given out in the match, a team yellow card
for Lesley at 61:39.
