Lesley races at historic Head of the Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University women's crew team competed at the most historic race in the world held on the Charles River, the 44th annual Head of the Charles Regatta.  The Lynx sent our their Lightweight Four squad and finished in 14th place behind Willamette University and posted their fastest time of the season at 23:16.

The team consisted of coxswain Laura Davis (Andover, Mass.), Kate Buckley (Glastonbury, Conn.), Isabel Arathoon (Guatemala City, Guatemala), Becca Koval (Sherman, Conn.), and Siobhan Pierce (Ayer, Mass.).

The conditions on the river were harsh, but the girls did a great job of pushing themselves throughout the race.  The Lynx got a lot of pre-race support from teammates Jackie Barnes (Lenox, Mass.), who although she could not compete in the race due to injury, the senior practiced with the boat to help get ready for difficult course.

Davis was racing for the first time on the Charles and guided the boat down the river effectively as the team's coxswain.

The Head of the Charles Regatta has been grown tremendously for the past 45 years and today, more than 7,500 athletes from around the world compete in 55 different race events.  Over the course of an entire weekend, the Regatta will attract nearly 300,000 spectators during the October weekend.

The Lesley University women's crew team would like to thank all of their fans that came out to watch and cheer on the team.  The novice team was a huge help in preparing for the race, and the rowers appreciated all the support that came from parents, family, friends, and the Lesley community.  The team would especially like to thank Athletic Director Stanley Vieira for helping to get the Lesley community involved with the Regatta celebration by setting up the Lesley table by the river on the day of the event.

The Lynx will spent the offseason preparing for their competitive spring schedule and fundraising for their spring training trip to be held in March.
