Drezek's Huge Day Lead Lynx in First Win

GAME OVERVIEW:

WEST HARTFORD, CT. -- The Lesley Women's Basketball team earned their first win of the season in the consolation game of the USJ Tip-Off Tournament, defeating Lehman College 63-58 on Saturday afternoon. The Lynx advance to 1-3 this season, while the Lightning drop to 1-3.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lesley had the advantge in the first two quarters, led by 13 points from Sydnie Drezek and nine rebounds from Alexandra Kerley. Lehman struggled early, shooting only 31.4% in the field in the first half. 
  • The Lightning made a third quarter push to keep the Lynx on their toes, with Mojisola Shokeye scoring seven points and Brianna Barnes scoring six. The Lynx were only able to make three baskets in the third, but Drezek made five free throws to keep her team in it.
  • The two teams went into the fourth quarter tied. Drezek and Shokeye battled to the end, with Drezek dropping nine in crunch time and Shokeye adding seven. With only thirty-nine seconds left, Drezek was able to draw a foul and sank both free throw to put her team up 60-58. She added one more free throw later and two from Jordan Blair iced the game for Lesley. Free throws were key in this one; the Lynx shot 80%, while Lehman left opportunities out there by shooting only 55.6% from the line.
  • Drezek led the way in her best game of the season, scoring 27 points on 50% shooting. She added nine rebounds and four steals, while also shooting 80% from the free throw line. Kerley continued her strong start to her season, securing 13 rebounds and scoring eight points. Kerley ranks first in the NECC in total rebounds and blocks (43 and 10), while sitting second in rebounds per game at 10.8.
