GAME OVERVIEW:

Cambridge, MA-The Lesley Lynx Women ran out of steam in an absorbing clash with Dean College Bulldogs on Tuesday, January 30 as they were defeated by nine points after overtime. The Lynx held the upper hand for much of the contest and were 11 points in front on a number of occasions. However, the Bulldogs battled back and held the hosts scoreless in overtime to emerge with the conference victory. Lesley's record now stands at 3-15 overall and 3-7 in conference while Dean are 11-7 overall and 8-2 in conference games.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• The teams were tied six times in the first quarter. A layup from Iindia Pina drew Dean level at 6 points each with 3:53 remaining.  The opening score of the contest was a jump shot from Dean's eventual top-scorer Shannon Rosensteel. 
• The Lynx reliance on Theresa Pereira and Dakota Jones for scores was evident early on as the duo netted their side's entire 14-point tally in the first quarter. The Bulldogs hit the same number of points in the opening quarter, but their scores came from five different players. 
• Freshman Karyn McEvoy became only the third Lynx player to register a score with a layup to tie the two teams at 20 points with 7:51 to go in the second quarter. 
• New Jersey native Linda Wallentine made a huge contribution to the Lynx leading 32-27 at half-time. Wallentine made two jump shots and landed a three pointer. A steal from Madelyn Whipple paved the way for Wallentine to make one of her jump shots. 
• Jake Mattleman's home side went up 37-27 early in the third quarter with scores from Jones (layup) and Whipple (three pointer).
• The Lynx highest winning margin in the game was 11 points and they first reached that lead when senior Pereira scored a jump shot to make it 46-35 with only 2:51 to go in the third quarter. 
• Lesley also had a 11-point winning margin early in the final quarter when a Jones layup made it 52-41.
• The Bulldogs began to live up to their mascot name as they dug in deep and went on an 11-point run to tie the game at 52 all with 7:29 left to play.
• The lead swung both ways on numerous occasions in the remaining minutes. The Lynx thought they had won the game right at the end when Pereira's three-point effort went into the basket. However, the buzzer rang just before her shot landed and the teams had to settle for five minutes of overtime. 
• Tiredness began to show in the Lynx team in overtime as they failed to register a single score while the Bulldogs tagged on nine points to claim a victory on the road.
• Lesley's free-throw percentage for the whole game was 77.8%, which was far greater than their opponents 54.2%.
• Dean had a greater spread of scorers and this is highlighted somewhat by the fact that they had 19 bench points compared to just seven points from the Lesley reserves.

Head coach Jake Mattleman's reaction to his side's overtime defeat:

"You hate to lose a game where you have so many players making big efforts. Players playing over forty minutes in the game. You're always disappointed to lose but you can't be disappointed in the effort or what the girls put in tonight. We ran out of gas. We lost a couple of players to injury. We had to roll with what we had. Like I said we had so many players playing extra minutes and for us to push through like that. I'm still proud of our girls. We're happy with the effort, we're never happy to lose. We'll take the good things that we did today and we'll apply them on Thursday against Fisher."
