Wheelock Too Much for Women's Basketball

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's basketball team was tripped up by Wheelock College 65-30 in New England Collegiate Conference action tonight at Winsor Court. The loss drops the Lynx to 1-10 on the season and 0-5 in NECC play while the Wildcats jump to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in conference matchups.

Lesley senior Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) paced the offense for the guests with 11 points to go with five rebounds. Sophomore Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) finished one point and one rebound shy of notching a double-double as she finished with nine points and a team-high nine boards. Junior Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) poured in a season-best eight points while corralling five caroms and classmate Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) pulled down seven rebounds.

Wheelock used a balanced attack as 11 different players registered points. Junior forward Kayla Corshia (Medway, Mass.) led the way with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds (six offensive) while classmate Michelle Woods (Wilmington, Mass.) joined her in double-digits with 12 points. Rookie forward Katie Walsh (East Islip, N.Y.) shared game-high honors of 10 caroms while sophomore guard Emma Siver (Colchester, Conn.) came off the bench with a season-high seven assists.

Wheelock opened the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back as they led by as many as 26 in the first half. The Wildcats continued their dominance into the second stanza, ending the third period on an 11-0 spurt to give them a 57-22 advantage before closing things out with an evenly played fourth for a 65-30 final margin of victory.

Both teams struggled from the field as Wheelock shot 31% (26-of-83) from the field compared to Lesley's 21% (11-of-51), but the Wildcats dominated down low, holding a 63-39 rebounding edge and outscoring the Lynx 30-18 in the paint. Wheelock held a 20-1 advantage in points off turnovers.

Lesley will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they head to Elms College at 7:00p while Wheelock will also be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Mitchell College at 3:00p.
