BROOKLINE, Mass. – Lesley University junior Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) netted a team-high 14 points, but it was not enough as Newbury College completed the regular season sweep of the Lynx with a 64-50 victory in New England Collegiate Conference action tonight in Brookline, Mass. Newbury improves to 6-12 overall and 5-7 in the conference while Lesley falls to 1-16 and 1-9 in the NECC.

Nighthawks junior Jovanna Sandifer (Boston, Mass.) led all players in scoring, knocking down four triples on her way to 25 points.

Despite a slow offensive start the Nighthawks were able to jump on top of the Lynx quickly. First year forward Kylie Kowalski (Wrightstown, N.J.) capped off a 10-4 run, knocking down a jumper from junior guard Katelyn Roeser (Nashua, N.H.).

Midway through the first half, Lesley was able to cut the deficit down to one possession. First year forward Kelsey Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) drained a lay-up to bring the Lynx back to within three, 13-10, but the Nighthawks sprinted to the end of the half with a 12-4 run to take a 25-14 lead into the break. Sandifer led the charge for the hosts with five of her 25 points during the spurt.

The teams traded buckets after they emerged from the locker rooms before Newbury used an 8-0 streak to build a 37-19 edge with just over 14-minutes to play.  

Trailing 45-27 with 9:33 left in the half, the Lynx put together a 16-5 charge over the next three minutes to pull within seven, 50-43. It was a balanced offensive attack that provided the punch for the Lynx as five different players found the bucket on the run.

Seven points would be as close as the Lynx got, however, as Cardona and Sandifer combined for seven straight points for the Nighthawks as they rolled to the 64-50 win.

Cardona followed up Sandifer netting 14 points while picking the pockets of the Lynx six times. Roeser finished with nine points, six rebounds and six steals for the hosts.

Shooting 6-of-16 from the floor, Ewing led the Lynx with a team-high 14 points. Classmate Ari Dimou (Macnhester, N.H.) was right behind her tallying eight points and four assists while senior center Grace Amato (Sharon, Vt.) led the way with nine rebounds.

The Lynx will be in action Thursday when they host Wheelock College at 8:00 p.m. The Nighthawks break from conference action when they travel to Quincy, Mass. Thursday evening for a 7:00 p.m. tilt against Eastern Nazarene College.
