Late Push Falls Short for Women's Basketball at Wheelock

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- A late run by Lesley University fell short tonight as the Lynx fell to Wheelock College 48-43 in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action on Brunelli Court. Wheelock improves to 5-7 oveall and 3-2 in the NECC while Lesley falls to 1-10 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

After a see-saw first eight minutes, the Lynx pulled ahead 8-7 on a layup by junior Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.). Wheelock then embarked on a 16-3 run over the next 11-minutes that wasn't broken until a layup by Lesley junior guard Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) cut their deficit to 23-13 with 1:46 remaining in the half. Freshman Kerry Flaherty (Woburn, Mass.) backed up Ewing's bucket with a laup of her own to cut the Wildcats lead to 23-15 at the break.

In the second half, the home squad started things off with a quick 7-0 spurt to give them their largest advantage of the contest at 30-15. From that point on the visitors chipped away with a 23-8 run until a jumper Dimou with 7:24 cut the their deficit to three, 41-38.

The Lynx would get that close once more on a pair of free throws from Dimou to make it 43-40 but a crucial trifecta by Wildcat sophomore Emily Doyle (Lynn, Mass.) pushed the advantage back up to six.

Wheelock would cling to their slim lead as a Corshia jumper from the baseline made it 48-42 at the 2:57 mark.

Lesley saw three players finish in double-figures as Dimou led the team with 12 points while Ewing and Flaherty each added 11. Ewing added a team-high seven rebound while Flaherty contributed a game-high four assists.

Corshia led the Wheelock attack with a game-high 14 points. Doyle joined her in double-figures with 12 points while sophomore guard Katie Alsip (Quincy, Mass.) led the hosts with a game-high 11 rebounds. Fellow sophomores Michelle Woods (Wilmington, Mass.) and Amber Tudor (Bronx, N.Y.) shared team-high honors with three assists apiece.

The Lynx continue their NECC slate on Thursday when they play host to Elms College at 8:00p.

The Wildcats will also return to action on Thursday when they take on Mitchell in an NECC matchup on Brunelli Court at 6:00p.
