Women's Basketball Comes Back to Drop Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. – Three different players recorded double-figures as Lesley University recorded their first win of the season with a 48-40 victory over Becker College this afternoon at the Leicester Gymnasium. The Lynx improve to 1-8 on the year and 1-2 in New England Collegiate Conference play with the win, while the loss drops the Hawks to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

The Lynx overcame a 19-13 deficit at halftime to earn their first win of the season. Freshman Kerry Flaherty (Woburn, Mass.) paced Lesley with 12 points and seven boards. Classmate Kelsey Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) and junior Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong, China) finished with 11 points each, while senior Grace Amato (Sharon, Vt.) chipped in with eight points off the bench.

Alycia Dery (Millville, Mass.) tallied a game high 13 points for the Hawks. Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) finished with 12 points while Diana Farmer (North Brookfield, Mass.) and Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) gathered seven rebounds apiece.

The Hawks held a 12-point edge at 27-15 with 15:31 to go in the game before the Lynx put together a 21-5 run over the next ten minutes to take a 36-32 lead that they would not relinquish. Flaherty powered the Lesley attack during the run with ten points.

An Alycia Dery (Milville, Mass.) layup pulled the Hawks to within two,40-38, with 3:10 to go, but the visitors would end the game on an 8-2 streak to hang on for the 48-40 win.

Lesley held a slim 43-39 rebounding advantage, but turned 29 Becker turnovers into 28 points on the afternoon. The Lynx bench proved to be vital as they outscored the Hawks reserves by a 12-1 margin.

Lesley returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they host New Rochelle at 3:00 p.m. Becker will shoot for their first win of the season on Tuesday, January 13 when they travel to Elms College at 7:00 p.m.
