Mountaineers Top Women's Basketball in NECC Tilt

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Lesley University junior guard Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong, China) netted a season-high 17 points, but the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College were still too much for the Lynx as they ran away to a 100-47 victory this afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action. The win propels SVC to an even 5-5 overall on the season and a perfect 3-0 in NECC play. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-7 on the year, 0-2 in conference play.

Ewing did a good job drawing fouls and converted 9-of-13 opportunities from the charity stripe. Her 17 points were the second most in a game in her career, the most since scoring 22 points against Bay Path College on December 12, 2008. Freshman Kelsey Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) scored a career-best nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor while also adding six boards to her line. Sophomore Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) finished with six points, eight boards, and four assists coming off the bench for the Lynx.

SVC junior Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) led five Mountaineers in double-figures as she finished with a game-high 23 points of 10-of-13 shooting. Freshman Chloe Longe (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) chipped in with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting while also dishing out a game-high six assists. Junior Marissa Myers (Chatham, N.Y.) came off the bench and sunk five three-pointers on her way to fifteen points while Turquoia Johnson (Montgomery Village, Md.) added fourteen points and a game-high six steals.

The Lynx held a distinct advantage at the free throw line, going 19-of-28 from the stripe while the hosts went just 4-of-8. Lesley also held a 46-39 rebounding advantage on the day, but the Mountaineers defense was stout, causing 37 turnovers while holding the Lynx to 27-percent shooting from the floor.

The hosts were efficient on the offensive side of the ball, as they finished the game shooting nearly 53-percent while knocking down ten triples on the day.

Lesley will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Lasell College in non-conference action at 7:00p. SVC will continue NECC play on Saturday when they travel to Mitchell College for a 3:30p start.
