Hawks Take Off in Second Half to Fly Over Lynx

LEICESTER, Mass.– Senior Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.) set career-highs with 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead Becker College to a 71-60 win over Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action. The win lifts the Hawks record to 5-8 (5-2 NECC), while the Lynx fall to 1-13 (1-6 NECC).

Tatiana Mojica (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in with 18 points, while Haley Ooms (Valatie, N.Y.)dished out a game-high 13 assists.

Lesley was led by Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) with a team-high 18 points. The 18 points marks a career-high for the senior who has now scored in double-figures in five of the last seven contests. Grace Amato (South Royalton, Vt.) added eight points and Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, Mass.) pulled down eight boards. 

Becker jumped out to a 9-2 advantage and never relinquished the lead the entire game.  

Lesley made things interesting early in the second half when a Mercurio lay-up brought the Lynx to within two, 37-35, with 17:37 to play. The Lesley excitement was short lived as the Hawks went on a 17-2 run to take a 54-37 lead. The Hawks shot just under 45-percent from the field, while the Lynx shot just under 28-percent. 

Both teams return to NECC action on Thursday, January 16. Becker will travel to Wheelock College for a 7:30 p.m. tilt, while the Lynx return home to face Mitchell College at 8:00 p.m.
