CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Emerson College junior forward Kristin Brice (Indiana, Penn.) registered her fifth double-double of the season as the Lions topped Lesley University 65-35 tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols in non-conference action. Brice finished with game-highs of 20 points and 11 boards as the Lions improve to 4-4 on the season. With the loss, the Lynx fall to 0-7.
Complementing Brice's performance was sophomore Kelsey Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y.) who came off the bench to score 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Junior Macy Day (Rochester, N.H.) chipped in with six points while corralling seven rebounds.
Leading the way for the Lynx was senior Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) who finished with a team-high 14 points, four rebounds, and a game-high five steals. Sophomore Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) dumped in six points while grabbing a team-high 10 boards. Sophomore Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) and senior Emily Fleming (Medford, Mass.) finished with five points apiece.
Brice and sophomore Sienna O'Han (Red Hook, N.Y.) combined to score the first five points of the game as the Lions took a quick 5-0 lead. The Lynx answered with a run of their own as they scored six of the next eight points to cut the deficit to two, 8-6. Fleming carried the load for Lesley, starting the run with two free throws and capping it with a steal and fast-break layup.
With Emerson leading 11-6 with 12:28 left in the half, Lesley put together another 6-2 charge thanks to consecutive treys from Ewing and freshman Tara Coleman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.), pulling to within one, 13-12.
From there it was all Lions as they went on a 19-0 tear, holding the Lynx scoreless for the next 9:39, to open up a 32-12 advantage. A balanced attack was the key to the run as six different Lions scored during the streak. Brice had six of her 20 during the charge, while Day and freshman Olivia Still (Hebron, Conn.) each chipped in with four as the Lions went into the break with a 32-16 edge.
The Lion's continued their momentum from the opening half as they opened the second with a 15-0 streak to push their lead to 47-16 as they rolled to the 65-35 win.
Emerson shot 37.9% (25-of-66) from the field for the game and held a distinct 56-33 rebounding edge over Lesley. The Lynx struggled from the floor, finishing the game with a 20.4% (11-of-54) shooting percentage.
The Lynx will return to the floor on Saturday when they travel to Gordon College for a non-conference tilt with the Fighting Scots. The Lions will get back to action after the winter break when they host Babson College on January 4th.
