Women's Basketball: Norwich Sprints to 84-50 win against Lesley

NORTHFIELD, Vt.—15 different players scored to lead the Norwich University women's basketball team to an 84-50 win against Lesley University on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play in Andrews Hall.

With the win, the Cadets improve to 3-2 on the season, while the loss drops the Lynx to 0-4.

Juniors Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) both finished with 13 points, three assists, and three steals for the Cadets. FreshmanHeather LeBlanc (Sanford, Maine) added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench, while classmate Mehgan McMullen (Northfield, Vt.) chipped in with eight points and three assists.

Freshman Leanne Winans (Hudson, N.H.) recorded a team-high eight rebounds in 10 minutes of action off the bench. Senior Tylita Butler (Lexington Park, Md.) added seven points for the Cadets on 2-3 shooting from the floor (1-2 from three-point range) and 2-2 shooting from the free-throw line.

The Lynx saw a game-high 14 points from Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.). Apgar also added five rebounds and an assist. Emily Fleming (Medford, Mass.) scored seven points and added five rebounds, while Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong, H.K.) and Tara Coleman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) also added seven points apiece.

The Lynx score the first points of the game on a three-point shot by Apgar, and the visitors held the lead for the first 9:05 of the game, until a layup by LeBlanc tied the score at 9-9. A three-pointer by Coleman gave the lead back to the Lynx momentarily until Curry netted a three-point shot on the Cadets' next trip down. Coleman would again net a lead-changing shot, but Norwich would have another answer, this time in the form of a layup by Butler.

The Lynx would take the lead one more time in the half on a jumper by Apgar with 8:01 on the clock. The Cadets took control from there, and closed out the half with a 20-2 run to take a 41-21 lead into halftime.

Norwich would open up the gap to over 30 points early in the second half, which gave head coach Mark Zacher the opportunity to rotate all 16 players through the lineup. The Cadets' largest lead of the day at 69-30 came on a layup by juniorKaitlyn McMullen (Northfield, Vt.) with 8:53 on the clock. Her sister Mehgan set up the play, driving to the open lane and pulling up for what seemed to be an open look. Instead, Mehgan fed the ball to Kaitlyn in the post, who finished the layup for the first points of her career at Norwich.

The Cadets shot an impressive 46.4 percent from the floor over the course of the game and hit 55.6 percent of first-half three-point attempts (5-9).

The Lynx connected on 36 percent of shots from the floor and 64.3 percent of shots from the free-throw line.

Norwich is idle until Dec. 3, when the team hosts Plattsburgh State in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m.
