RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. – The Lesley University women's basketball team suffered their third straight loss to open the 2013-14 campaign, suffering a 56-48 setback to Vermont Tech this afternoon in non-conference action in Randolph Center, Vermont. Tech forward Paige Wells (Orleans, Vt.) posted a double-double of 20 points and 15 boards to pace the Knights attack while senior guard Ama Baker (Fitchburg, Mass.) knocked down three treys on her way to a game-high 23 points.

Lesley junior Grace Amato (South Royalton, Vt.) led the Lynx with a season-high 16 points to go with her four rebounds while sophomore guard Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) had nine points in the loss.

The teams went back-and-forth in the opening half, exchanging the lead four times over the first 13 minutes. With Lesley trailing by one, 16-15, with 7:10 remaining in the first, a jumper from senior Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) sparked an 8-2 run giving Lesley their biggest lead of the game at 23-18. The lead would not last, however, as Tech freshman Daisi Poole (Monmouth, Me.) scored five straight to notch things up before a Baker free throw would give the Knights a 24-23 edge at the break.

The second half opened much like the first with the two teams exchanging buckets throughout the first ten minutes. Leading 36-34 with just under 12 minutes to go, the Knights scored the next seven straight to open up a nine point advantage. Baker was the catalyst during the streak, accounting for five of the seven Tech points.  

Amato and the Lynx battled back as the junior forward hit three consecutive jumpers to bring Lesley to within three, trailing 43-40, but Tech knocked down four straight free throws to push the lead back to seven. Lesley was unable to close the gap from there as Tech finished out the 56-48 win.

Lesley sophomore Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) finished with six points for the Lynx while Apgar and freshman Belen Garcia-Clark (Bristol, Conn.) each finished with four points and six boards.

The Lynx will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Norwich University for a 1:00p tip-off.
