THE LEAD – Regis College picked up a pair of non-conference wins over Lesley University in non-conference softball action on Tuesday night, dropping the Lynx in Game 1, 8-7, before a 6-2 win in Game 2 for the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Trailing 7-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Pride rallied for three runs to walk-off with an 8-7 win in Game 1 of the non-conference doubleheader. Bianca Burke delivered the game-winning hit with an RBI single to right.
  • The Lynx broke a 5-5 stalemate in the top of the seventh on RBI singles by Lauren Martin and Mellanie Barth to take the brief 7-5 lead.
  • The sides traded runs early in the action with both teams scoring a run in the first.
  • Lesley pulled ahead, 5-1 with four runs in the second inning, scoring three unearned runs thanks to a Regis error but the hosts answered with three in the bottom half of the inning to pull within a run at 5-4. Burke delivered a two-RBI double to start the comeback.
  • The Pride evened the score at 5-all in the fourth to set the stage for the late-game walk off scene.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Isabella Moscoso paced LU with a 1-for-2 performance, drawing two walks to go along with a run scored and RBI.
  • Martin shared the identical stat-line as Moscoso
  • Samantha Mecklenburg tied her season-high of five strikeouts in the circle but falls to 1-6 on the year after the defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • The Lynx jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with two in the first but it was all the visitors could muster following a quick hook in favor of Mel Rees in the circle. Reese came on in the first inning and was fabulous in relief, tossing 6 1/3 innings of one-hit ball to notch the win and improve to 3-3 on the year, striking out seven.
  • After falling behind early, the Pride got all the run support they'd need in the bottom half of the first by plating five runs. Avery Patles belted a two-RBI single to center to tie the game and then came around to score the eventual game-winning run later in the frame.
  • The only other run in the action came in the third on an RBI triple by Bianca Burke to bumped the lead to 6-2, the final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)

  • Sydney Cole and MJ Jones collected the only two Lesley hits in the setback while Emma Hodgkins and Kari Sorensen scored the LU runs.
  • Hodkins suffered the setback to fall to 2-4 on the year but did steal a pair of bases for Lesley.
