GAME OVERVIEW:

GLENSIDE, PA. – The Lesley Lynx Softball team had their incredible season come to a close in their NCAA Softball Regional game on Saturday night. They fell to the Johnson & Wales Wildcats 4-1, allowing the Wildcats to move on to face host Arcadia in the losers' bracket tomorrow.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• This one, scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM, did not get underway until nearly 10 PM. Rainy weather caused the first game of the day, which began at noon, to be suspended and it did not resume until 8:30 PM. After the long delay, both the Lynx and Wildcats got fantastic pitching performances from Samantha Mecklenburg and Sage Borkowski.
• The Wildcats threated in the first inning, putting runners on first and second. With one out, a fly ball to right field retired Kaelani Gamb and Mackenzie Clee was thrown out trying to score on a dropped throw to third base.
• The Lynx only real threat came in the third inning, when Tara Eldredge and Megan Murphy picked up two of only four Lesley hits in the game. Eldredge was thrown out attempting to move to third on Murphy's single to end the inning.
• JWU again got a runner to third in the sixth inning, but could not bring her in to score. Hailey Erick led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but Mecklenburg got Meaghan Gurska to ground out to end the inning.
• A run finally came across in the top of the seventh when Clee singled to left field with Alexis Falcigno on second base. It looked like Falcigno would hold at third, but a bobble in left field allowed her to come across and score the first run of the game and all the Wildcats would need to win. JWU added three more runs, with Clee scoring on an infield single by Julia Huzi. Huzi would then score on an errant throw after stealing third. Caroline Amorelli later drove in Jaelynn Accola with a base hit.
• The Lynx battled back as best they could in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a one-out double by Antonia Kieran, Sam Jensen singled up the middle to bring Kieran home and make it 4-1. It was all the Lynx could get off Borkowski in the end.
• Aside from the final inning, Mecklenburg was outstanding. Taking the loss, she allowed four runs (only one earned) while striking out two over seven innings. Borkowski was just a bit better, allowing only the one run over a complete game win with four strikeouts.
