Lynx Bats Go Quiet as Wheaton Sweeps Doubleheader

GAME OVERVIEW:

NORTON, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Softball team were unable to get their bats going on Tuesday evening as they were swept by the Wheaton College Lyons in a doubleheader. The Lyons won game one 7-2 and game two 10-1 in five innings. The Lynx fall to 10-10 this season, while the Lyons move up to 17-11.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • The Lynx grabbed two runs early in the first inning and that would be all they could get off of Wheaton starter Sarah Pritchard in game one. After back-to-back singles by Megan Murphy and Jordan Day, Ilana Zack double to bring Murphy home and Antonia Kieran grounded out to allow Day to score.
  • From that point on, it was all Wheaton. Katelyn Barton scored on a triple by Lindsey Oliveira in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Lynx lead to 2-1 and Wheaton then put up two three-run innings in a row to break the game open.
  • Wheaton's first run in the fourth inning came on another triple, this time from Tristan Keller to drive in Lilly Laganiere. Keller would later score on a single by Juliette Zito and Bryanna Agan followed her up with an RBI groundout.
  • In the fifth inning, the Lyons again scored their first run off a triple. Grace DiBacca was the culprit this time, sending Oliveira home with the three bagger. Pritchard helped her own cause later in the inning with a two-run homer to make it 7-2.
  • Pritchard got the win, allowing only the two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Day took the loss, allowing five runs over six innings, though she did strike out seven Wheaton batters.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • Game two was all Wheaton. They ended things in five innings, scoring ten runs over their four half-innings at the plate. Jill Ceddia led the way for the Lyons with three runs batted in, while Sofia Knopf and Erica Piercey each had two runs driven in. Zito and Knopf each had a triple as well to add to the Wheaton collection.
  • Day scored the only Lynx run in game two on a fifth-inning homer, her seventh of the season. She had a double in the second game as well, accouting for two of Lesley's six hits. Zack, Kieran, Jess O'Neill, and Mahlia Medina each had a single.
  • Emma Candelaria was fantastic for the Lyons, allowing only the single run over five innings. She collected three strikeouts in her ninth win of the season.
