Day Breaks Career HR Record As Lynx Split Doubleheader With Regis

GAME OVERVIEW:

REVERE, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Softball team split a doubleheader with the Regis Pride on Tuesday night, winning game one 8-5 and losing game two 9-6. The Lynx now sit at 8-6 this season, while the Pride finish the night at 6-15.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • Both teams put up three-run first innings, but the Lynx were able to keep that momentum going stronger than the Pride were. Regis scored their runs on a sacrifice fly by Kayla Morrill and a two-run single by Ciara Collins. Lesley saw back-to-back singles by Jordan Day and Ilana Zack to score two runs and Antonia Kieran followed them up with an RBI double to tie the score at three.
  • Day drove in two more runs in the bottom of the second on a double that sent Jess O'Neill and Mahlia Medina home. Regis cut the Lynx lead to one in the top of the thirdon another hit by Collins, this time a double to score Diana Petrarca.
  • The bottom of the third saw the Lynx add another three runs on two errors by Pride thirdbaseman Reilly Jewett. O'Neill reached on the first error, which allowed Kieran to score, and then came around to score herself (along with Holly Swinamer) as Tara Eldredge reached on an error.
  • Medina had an excllent game from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-3 and scoring twice. Day and Kieran were both 2-for-4, while Day had two runs batted in and Kieran had one. Day also picked up her fifth win of the season, striking out four over seven innings.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The scoring started in the first inning of the second game as well, with Regis bringing home two runs in the top of the frame. Morrill was again the early run creator, driving in Petrarca and Andria Braga with a double. The Lynx got their first run on a base hit by Swinamer to score Day.
  • Regis broke things open with a five run inning in the third. The Pride loaded the bases and Swinamer, game two's starter, induced two ground balls to Day at third base, who was able to throw two runners out at home. A third ground ball to Day was bobbled, allowing Bri Page to reach and Morrill to come into score. A wild pitch scored another run and Bianca Burke took advantage of the miscues with a two-run triple. Braga finished the inning with a double to send Burke home.
  • Day added a third Lynx run in the bottom of the third on her fifth home run of the season. The homer was the 29th of her career, setting a new record for most career home runs in Lesley Softball history. The previous mark was 28 home runs, set by former outfielder Mekenzi Golden.
  • The Pride picked up what turned out to be a crucial run on a bases loaded walk in the top of the fifth, because Lindsey Jensen came through with a grand slam to make it a two-run game. The slam was Jensen's second homer of the year.
  • Lesley had a prime opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, with base hits by O'Neill and Medina. With runners on second and third, Day came up and crushed a ball to centerfield that Burke was able to track down to kill the rally. The Pride added one more insurance run in the top of the seventh to seal the deal.
  • Kate McGrath earned her third win of the season for Regis, while Petrarca came in after Jensen's grand slam and earned a five out save.
