Lynx Open Season With Two Losses to Emerson

Lynx Open Season With Two Losses to Emerson

GAME OVERVIEW:

BOSTON, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Softball team lost the first two games of their season on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-0 in five innings and 7-3 to the Emerson Lions. Lesley begins their spring at 0-2, while the Lions advance to 12-4.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • The Lions got their bats going quickly, scoring five runs in the third inning off of Lynx starter Jordan Day. Claire Overton drove in the first two runs in the big inning with an RBI double, then later scored (along with Mackenzie Rice) on a single by Sophia Cloonan.
  • Emerson added three more runs in the very next inning, with Overton again getting the scoring started with an RBI single. Overton and Makenzie Killough then both scored on a base hit by Lexi Semanchik.
  • Day took the loss for the Lynx, though only four of the nine runs she allowed were earned. Jessica Gomez earned a clean win for Emerson, striking out seven Lynx while only allowing one hit. Day was the one to pick up the hit, with a third inning single.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The Lesley bats had better luck in the second game of the day, though they still fell behind early. Emerson again waited until the third inning to get their first run, but they never trailed in either game. Semanchik sent Sam Zannotti home to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • Day tied the game at one run apiece in the top of the fourth, doubling to drive in Mahlia Medina. Emerson came right back to get two more off of Lynx pitcher Samantha Mecklenburg in the bottom of the inning, thanks to Zannotti and Killough.
  • Medina produced another run in the fifth to bring Lesley within one, driving in Sam Jensen with a sac fly, but Emerson again responded by jumping on Mecklenburg in their half. The Lions scored four runs in the inning to put the game out of reach, though Medina did pick up another RBI in the top of the seventh.
  • Karagan Knowles got the win for the Lions, striking out ten Lynx batters over her seven innings of work.

UP NEXT:
