GAME OVERVIEW:

The Lesley softball team split their non-conference double header against the Emerson Lions Tuesday afternoon.  The Lynx claimed the first game 5-4, then fell in the nightcap 12-4.  With the split, Lesley improves to 8-4 on the year while Emerson sits at 9-3. 

GAME 1-INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• Lesley came out on the prowl scoring 4 runs in the top of the first.  Senior lead off Courtney Goggin started the game with walk, and Ashleigh Acker followed with a double to center to score Goggin from first.
• Freshman Riley Pickett hit her first collegiate homerun the next at bat to extend the Lynx lead to 3-0 with no outs.
• Jordan Raab later crossed the plate for the fourth run of the inning when Theresa Pereira reached first on an error.
• Pereira got the Lynx on the board again in the third scoring Cecere for the 5-0 lead.
• Freshman pitcher Jordan Day kept the Lions to just 2 hits through the first 4 innings play.  Emerson answered with 3 runs off 3 hits in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-3 game.
• The Lions made it a 1-run ball game in the bottom of the seventh off an RBI double from Leonardos.  With 1 out and runners on second and third Lesley ace Day struck out the next two batters to claim her eighth victory of the season.

QUICK STATS:

• Jordan Day earned the victory striking out 8 batters and 2 earned runs in 7 innings of work.  She also went 2-4 at the plate with 2 doubles.
• Riley Pickett hit her first collegiate homerun and had 2 RBI's.
• Abby Henderson and Juliana Cecere each went 2-3 with a walk to add to the Lynx offense.

GAME 2-INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• Emerson scored 4 runs in the bottom of the second to take an early lead.  Lesley answered one run back in the top half of the frame off an RBI single from Jordan Raab.
• A 6 run third inning from Emerson extended their lead 10-1.
• The Lynx continued to show their fight, chipping away with 3 runs scored in the top of the fourth to make it 10-4.  With the bases loaded and two outs, Jordan Day ripped a bases clearing double to center field. 
• The Lions came back with 2 more runs in the bottom frame to extend their lead to 8 and claim the 5 inning victory.

QUICK STATS:

• Jordan Day continues to pace the offense, going 2-2 with 3 RBI and a walk.
• Courtney Goggin, Jordan Raab, Juliana Cecere, and Stephanie Schofield each chipped in a hit.
• Tallin Goldberg picks up the loss giving up 6 earned runs of 7 hits.

INSIDE SCOOP:

"It's always good to go out and get a split against a tough non-conference opponent," said Head Coach Heather Ross. "We continue to show spurts of greatness that display a very high level of play and will continue working in practice to reach that potential consistently. The fight this team has with scoring runs with two outs and answering back after a team scores shows the desire to compete that is necessary for us to be where we want to be come May."
