WESTON, Mass. – First year right-hander Sarah Bushman (Aurora, Colo.) tossed a complete game three-hitter in game two to earn her third victory of the season as the Lynx split with Regis College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.
The Pride squeaked out a 1-0 win in game but the Lynx answered taking game-two 2-1. Sophomore first baseman Jordan Raab's (Rochester, N.H.) launched her first career homerun in the top of the fourth inning of game two to lead the Lynx to their fifth NECC win.
Lesley moves to 5-1 in conference and 6-12 overall while Regis drops to 5-7 and 3-1 in NECC action.
Regis freshman pitcher Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) threw a gem in game one, leading the Pride to the 1-0 victory. The freshman went the distance to pick up her third win of the season, allowing just one hit and walking two while striking out eight Lynx.
Sophomore Allie Petillo (West Sayville, N.Y.) provided the only offense the Pride would need in game one in the bottom of the second. With sophomore Lisa Lusardi (Enfield, Conn.) on second base, Petillo roped an RBI double to left field to drive her in and give McLellan the only run support she would need on the afternoon.
The only Lynx hit came with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, when junior Courtney Goggin reached on a bunt base hit. Goggin would be gunned down trying to steal second moments later by catcher Rachel Tortora (Malden, Mass.) to escape unscathed.
Lesley's Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) had a strong day in the circle as well, but had the misfortune of simply being outdueled. The senior threw six innings in the loss, allowing just the one earned run on five hits while striking out three.
Game two was just as much of a pitchers' duel as game one, and it was just two big hits that made all the difference. A two-run blast over the wall in right-center field by Raab in the top of the fourth inning gave the Lynx a 2-0 lead that proved too much for the Pride to overcome.
Regis threatened in the bottom of the sixth, as junior Alexa Nejaime (Sandisfield, Mass.) hit an RBI triple to left field to score Tortora to cut the Lynx lead to 2-1. With just one out and the tying run only 60 feet away Bushman was able to escape the jam by retiring the next two Pride batters. Freshman Gabrielle Cammarata (Revere, Mass.) worked a walk in the bottom of the seventh, but the Pride couldn't bring her around to score, and the game ended with a 2-1 final.
McLellan registered the loss in game two, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven in six innings. Bushman got the win, going the distance and allowing the one run on three hits.
Next up for the Pride, they will welcome Wheelock College to Weston on Tuesday afternoon for an NECC doubleheader at 2:30 and 4:30. The Lynx will return to the diamond the same day, hosting Newbury for a doubleheader at 6:30 and 8:30.
