Lynx Drop Pair to Lions

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University softball team dropped a pair to non-conference Emerson College, Monday evening. Senior third baseman Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) led the Lynx going three-for-four with an RBI and a run scored in the first game of the twin-bill.

Game 1: Emerson 4, Lesley 2

Lesley jumped on the board early pushing across a run in the top of the first and third innings to taking a 2-0 lead. Barker drove in the Lynx's first run on an infield chopper back to the circle in the first inning while their second run with scored on a wild pitch.

However the Lions were able to get to senior right-hander Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) in the home half of the third. Lions senior Shelby Carney launched a solo homerun over the leftfield fence before sophomore Kallista Leonardos' two-run shot to give Emerson the 3-2 lead and they never looked back.

The Lynx threatened in the top of the seventh with runners at the corners but Emerson first year pitcher Keely Marques was able to get sophomore Jordan Raab to ground out to third to close out the game. Marques earned her first win of the season improving to 1-4 while Nisbet falls to 0-5 on the season.

Game 2: Emerson 11, Lesley 2

Sophomore right-field Stephanie Schofield (Redwood City, Calif.) gave the Lynx the early 1-0 lead driving home junior centerfielder Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) with a sacrifice fly in the opening frame. They extended their lead to 2-0 two innings later taking advantage of a Lions error but it did not last for very long.

Trailing by two runs Emerson batted around in the home half of the third to put up a crooked number six and take the four-run, 6-2, lead. The Lions did not look back as they pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-2 lead. They sealed the deal scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth.

Pereira led the Lynx offense in game two going two-for-three with two runs scored from the top of the Lynx line-up. First year right-hander Sarah Bushman (Aurora, Colo.) took the loss allowing six runs – only one earned – on four hits while striking out three to drop to 0-3 on the season.

Lesley drops to 1-9 on the season while Emerson improves to 3-9. The Lynx return to the diamond on Thursday March 23rd when they travel to Framingham State University. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
