Wyse Leads Softball To Doubleheader Split With Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Lesley University and Elms College split a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader this afternoon at Cheryl R. Condon Field. The Lynx move to 18-14 on the season and 12-4 in NECC play while the Blazers finish their regular season at 15-18 overall and an even 9-9 in the conference standings.

The Lynx will wrap up their regular season with an NECC doubleheader tomorrow at Becker College. First pitch is slated for 11:00a.

Game One: Lesley 6, Elms 1
Box Score

After a scoreless first inning, Lesley cracked the scoreboard in the top of the second behind a two-out RBI single from freshman Jordan Raab (Rochester, N.H.) that brought in freshman Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.).

Raab would come through with a clutch two-out hit once again in the top of the fourth inning as she plated Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) and Abby Henderson (Rochester, N.H.) with a single to center that lifted the lead to 3-0.

After adding two more in the fifth, the Lynx would tack on one more in the seventh on a Reynolds RBI single.

Sophomore starter Kaera Wyse (Reading, Mass.) struck out a season-high 12 batters while yielding just seven hits and one run and improving to 11-6 on the season.

Raab paced the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate – her third three-hit game of the season – while knocking in a trio of runs. Henderson knocked a double, scored a run, and drove in one while senior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) registered a pair of hits from atop the Lesley lineup.

Game Two: Lesley 1, Elms 4
Box Score

The Blazers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the finale, plating three runs in the bottom of the first. After tripling to right field, Elms freshman Catharine Wrang (Middletown, Conn.) touched home on an RBI single from junior Kacey Gifford (Suffield, Conn.) to grab a 1-0 lead for the Blazers. Gifford scored on a throwing error on a single from Taylor Skinner (South Windsor, Conn.), followed by an RBI single from freshman Kayla Doherty (Plaistow, N.H.) to hand Elms a 3-0 lead.

Elms freshman Raeanna Tumel (Stafford, Conn.) limited the Lynx to three hits over the first five innings of play. Lesley posted their lone run of the game in the sixth on an RBI single by senior Sydney Thayer (Reading, Mass.) to cut the Blazers lead to 3-1. Tumel responded for Elms in the bottom of the frame, lifting a sacrifice fly to score Kierstan Skinner, securing the 4-1 win for the Blazers.

Wrang, Gifford, and Olszewski knocked two hits each and scored, while Gifford drove in a run. Doherty and Tumel went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Tumel (8-6) logged the complete game win, scattering one run on four hits with two strikeouts.

Quezada and Henderson went 1-for-3 for Lesley, while Thayer delivered an RBI in her lone at-bat. Junior Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) allowed four runs, three earned, on ten hits with four strikeouts.
