Golden Records 100th RBI as Softball Splits With ENC

QUINCY, Mass. – The Lesley University offense posted double-digit runs for the fifth straight game as the Lynx ran away to a 12-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in game one of a non-conference doubleheader, but could not extend the streak any further as the Lions quieted the Lesley bats in the nightcap to earn a split with a 2-0 victory.

Lynx junior Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) blasted her fourth home run of the season in game one – a three run shot in the fifth inning – and recorded the 100th RBI of her career in the process.

The Lynx move to 15-11 on the season while the Lions go to 12-20 overall. Both sides will face a quick turnaround and play a non-conference doubleheaders tomorrow as Lesley will travel to Gordon College at 3:30p while ENC will play host to Regis College at 3:00p.

Game One: Lesley 12, ENC 1 (Final – 6 Innings)
Box Score

Lesley senior Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) aided Golden's offense with a 3-for-4 performance with a double and a pair of runs scored while freshman Jordan Raab (Rochester, N.H.) also finished with a trio of hits to go with two RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) added a double of her own while going 2-for-4 with two runs and a run.

Sophomore starter Kaera Wyse (Reading, Mass.) set a new season-high, striking out nine Lions while allowing just three hits and one unearned run. Wyse struck out the side in the first inning and recorded at least one punch out in five of six innings in the complete game win as she improves to 8-6 on the year.

Trailing 1-0 after four innings, the Lynx finally got on the board with a two out rally in the fifth. An RBI single by freshman Stephanie Schofield (Redwood City, Calif.) opened the scoring for the Lynx before Golden connected for a three-run homer to center to give the guests a 4-1 lead.

Lesley would keep the momentum and keep the lineup moving in the top of the sixth as they sent 12 batters to the plate on their way to an eight run inning that put the game out of reach. Raab would smack a two-run double down the right field line to score Reynolds and Goggin before coming around when Schofield reached on an error in the Lions infield. Junior Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) would follow with an RBI double before freshman Abby Henderson (Rochester, N.H.) connected with a run-scoring single. Goggin would cap the scoring in the inning – and the game – with Lesley's fourth double of the inning that brought in Reynolds and Henderson.

Game Two: Lesley 0, ENC 2
Box Score

The Lesley offense that scored a combined 69 runs in the previous five games was kept off-balance by ENC starter Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) who limited the Lynx to just three hits in the complete-game shutout victory.

Lynx starter Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) suffered the loss for the visitors, tossing all six innings, scattering eight hits and striking out four  while allowing just two runs.

The Lions would get the only run they would need as when freshman Payton Fry (Chandler, Ariz.) blasted a solo homer to left-centerfield in the bottom of the fourth inning to stake a 1-0 lead for the hosts.

ENC would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and hang on for the 2-0 victory.
