Softball Sweeps Through Bay Path

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University cruised to a doubleheader sweep of Bay Path University in New England Collegiate Conference Softball action Saturday afternoon at Buckingham Field. The Lynx opened the day with a 6-1 victory before adding a 6-3 win in game two to complete the sweep.

Lesley improves to a perfect 4-0 in the conference and 7-9 overall with the pair of victories while Bay Path slips to 5-13 on the season and 2-4 in the NECC.

The Lynx face a quick turnaround and will play host to Regis College in another NECC double-dip Sunday at 12:00p on Buckingham Field. The Wildcats will also be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Mitchell College at 12:00p.

The Lynx offense got into gear early, posting one run in the first, two in the second and third, and one more in the fourth to cruise to the 6-1 victory.

With the score 1-0 in favor of the hosts, Pereira plated Goggin and senior Sydney Thayer (Reading, Mass.) with a triple to centerfield to extend the lead to 3-0 in the second. Lesley would continue their momentum in the bottom of the third as senior Jess Reynolds (Londonderry, N.H.) followed an Abby Henderson (Rochester, N.H.) double with an RBI single before sophomore Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) roped a double, allowing Reynolds to cross the dish.

Lesley starter Kaera Wyse (Reading, Mass.) complemented the hot offense with a terrific outing in the circle. The sophomore tied a season-high with eight strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits and five walks to notch her fourth win of the season.

Pereira, Goggin, and Reynolds each finished with a pair of hits for the hosts.

Bay Path freshman Madison Goodhart (Pawtucket, R.I.) suffered the loss for the Wildcats, allowing nine hits, six runs (three earned), while striking out three.

Junior Gretchen Hale (Naugatuck, Conn.), senior Casey Botelho (Providence, R.I.), and freshman Marissa Sarna-McCarthy (Westhampton, Mass.) each had hits for the Wildcats.

The Lesley offense remained hot as they pounded out six runs on ten hits to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Junior Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) finished 2-for-3 with a double and her first home run of the season to go with two RBI and a run scored. Reynolds added a perfect 3-for-3 performance while scoring a trio of runs and freshman Stephanie Schofield (Redwood City, Calif.) finished 2-for-3 with three runs knocked in.

Junior Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) earned her third win of the season for the Lynx, going the distance while allowing three runs on just three hits and racking up a season-high six strikeouts.

Goodhart was tagged with the loss for the Wildcats, giving up ten hits, six runs, and striking out four.

Senior Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) led the offense for the visitors, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI.
