Quezada and Golden Named 2016 Softball Captains

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University head softball coach Jen Benway has named senior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) and junior Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) captains for the upcoming 2016 season.

"Selena and Mekenzi are both tremendous leaders that work incredibly hard both in and out of season," said Benway. "The love and passion they have for softball is evident in everything that they do - they both have a great deal of respect for the game and attack it with a positive attitude that is contagious to the rest of the team. We have a young but very committed team and I am excited to see Selena and Mekenzi lead us back to the winning tradition that we have worked so hard for."

Quezada had an impressive first season with the Lynx in 2015 as she was voted to the New England Collegiate Conference Second Team after batting .413 with two home runs, 26 RBI, and 27 runs scored while playing in all 32 games. The short stop crushed NECC pitching as she registered a .469 batting average in 18 conference games.

Golden was voted the NECC Player of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team in her sophomore campaign as she compiled a .433 batting average with seven homers, 13 doubles, 41 RBI, and 22 runs scored. Her impressive season also earned her national and regional accolades as she was voted to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-New England Second Team in addition to the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Second Team.

The Lynx will open their season on March 15th at the annual Dot Richardson Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla.
