Softball Sweeps Bay Path in NECC Doubleheader

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – The Lesley University softball team got themselves back into the win column this afternoon, posting a pair of wins over Bay Path University in New England Collegiate Conference play in Longmeadow, Mass. The Lynx rolled to an 11-0 win in five innings in the opener before rallying for a 6-2 win in seven innings to complete the sweep.

Lesley, who snaps a five game losing streak, improves to 4-10 on the season and an even 2-2 in the NECC with the pair of victories while Bay Path drops to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The pair of wins runs Lesley's winning streak over Bay Path to 19 games dating back to 2006 and marks the ninth straight year the Lynx have swept the regular season series.

Everyone in the Lynx lineup recorded hits in game one, while the one through four slots combined to go 8-for-14 with six RBI and six runs scored. Junior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored while sophomore Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) also recorded a pair of hits to go with her three RBI and two runs scored. 

Sophomore Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) went the distance for the Lynx, allowing just two hits while striking out four as she picked up her second win over the season.

The Lesley offense stayed hot in game two as they pushed across six runs for the victory. Quezada turned in another solid game at the dish, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Freshman Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) smacked two doubles and added an RBI and a run scored to her line on the day while sophomore Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) also recorded a double and a run. 

Junior Jordan Thomas (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned the win for the Lynx, hurling four innings while allowing just two runs (one earned) and striking out two. Freshman Jillian Sbardella (Dartmouth, Mass.) threw three innings of scoreless relief to earn the save. 

The Lynx will be off from action this weekend before returning to the diamond on Monday when they host Emerson College in their home opener at Buckingham Field. First pitch is slated for 5:00p. The Wildcats will head to New London, Conn. on Sunday as they continue NECC play with a doubleheader against Mitchell College at 1:00p.
