Softball's Bats Quieted at Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – Emerson College freshman Jillian Gearin (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, an RBI and a run scored to power the Lions past Lesley University 8-0 in six innings this evening at Rotch Field in a non-conference affair. The win improves the Lions to 8-12 on the year while the Lynx, playing for just the second time since March 19th and the first time in the past 11 days, fall to 2-8 in 2015.

Freshman Alexis Ellis-Alvarez (Santee, Calif.) was excellent in the circle for the Lions, scattering three hits in five innings and striking out three while picking up her second win of the season.

Lesley sophomore Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and freshman Jillian Sbardella (Dartmouth, Mass.) each finished 1-for-2 with a double while fellow freshman Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) also recorded a hit for the Lynx.

The Lions offense wasted little time in putting runs on the board as freshman Lyndi McIntyre (Wichita, Kan.) plated junior Courtney Fee (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) with a single to put the hosts up 1-0.

Emerson added four more runs in the bottom of the third as sophomore Shelby Carney (North Reading, Mass.) laced a bases loaded double to score McIntyre and freshman Jacqueline DeFusco (East Greenwich, R.I.) before freshman Alexandria Martinez (Sparta,N.J.) knocked in two more with a single to extend the Lions lead to 5-0.

The Lions bats were not finished as they added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to force the eight-run rule.

Lesley threatened in the top of the fourth as Golden reached on a two-out double. The sophomore nearly scored on a Goggin single to center, but the Lions defense cut the run down at the plate to keep the Lynx scoreless.

The Lynx will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they travel to Mitchell College for a New England Collegiate Conference doubleheader with the Mariners at 3:30p. The Lions will also return to the diamond tomorrow when they travel to Wellesley College for a doubleheader at 3:00p.
