Framingham State Shuts Down Softball

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Junior Natasha Arseneau (Waltham, Mass.) tossed a complete game five-inning no hitter as the Framingham State University softball team defeated Lesley University 11-0 this afternoon in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.  The second game of the doubleheader was postponed because of inclement weather. The Rams are now 2-9 on the year, while the Lynx move to 2-7.

Arseneau tossed her first career no-hitter going five innings allowing just one base runner on a walk to junior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) in the first inning. After allowing the walk, Arseneau recorded five strikeouts and retired 14 Lynx batters in a row to close the game.

The Rams offense backed up Arseneau's terrific work in the circle as FSU batted around in the bottom of the third and plated seven runs.  Freshman Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) blooped a single to center to score the first run and sophomore Kylie Boyle (Billerica, Mass.) plated another on an RBI ground out.  After an RBI single from Bridget McGrail (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore Danielle Belliveau (Lakeville, Mass.) blasted a three run homerun to left to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.

The Rams tacked on four more in the bottom of the fourth as Boyle, Mackenzie Williams (North Andover, Mass.), McGrail and Casey Fanning (East Boston, Mass.) drove in single runs to reach the eight run rule.

The Lynx will look to get back into the win column when they host Newbury College on Sunday for a pair of New England Collegiate Conference games beginning at 6 p.m. The twin-bill will be played at Rotch Field. The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they open conference play against Fitchburg State.
